Made hotel to launch in New York

Set to open in New York in autumn 2016, Made is the inaugural hotel project from hospitality entrepreneur Sam Gelin.

Spread across 18 storeys with 108 guestrooms in the NoMad neighbourhood, Made takes a reinvented approach towards guest experience, placing importance on experience as the new luxury.

Los Angeles-based Studio MAI has developed the hotel’s urban international design aesthetic, imbued with elements of iconic global simplicity, presenting a guestroom design that is humble, elegant and playfully personalises rooms for each guest’s individual style and mood. Exposed raw bronze shelving and rich hand-woven fabrics create a backdrop for a multi-directional day bed platform, while precisely manufactured details such as a polished stainless steel mirror contrasts with a primitive, hand carved bench, resulting in a well-thought out layout.

Gelin’s approach is seen the rich yet conscious materials used throughout the property’s crafted environment, the food and beverage offerings and striking public spaces and private areas, which will include a communal coffee shop, restaurant, lobby bar and rooftop. With an emotionally intelligent approach to service and focus within the ethos of the community, Made is a seductive retreat where social and structural barriers have been removed. The result is inspiring interactions combined with exceptional service and bold design.

Made’s mission is to create a special place where locals will know it and be known, and visitors will claim it as their own.

Sam Gelin is co-founder of Craft Hospitality, a brand that organises pop-up craft events throughout New York.
