Bocci 79 revealed

Bocci has launched Bocci 79, a showcase of design-led lighting installations housed in a historic Berlin courthouse.

Presenting pieces by Omer Arbel – including those found in Fairmont Pacific Rim – the selection includes complete collections, catalogue pieces developed for Bocci as well as works-in-progress, prototypes and ideas. The collections will inhabit a total of 2,200m² in West Berlin.

Products on display include 16, a piece formed by sequentially pouring three separate layers of coloured, molten glass on a horizontal plane. Each layer has a different opacity, responding to the haphazard shape of the previous pour to create a uniquely layered whole. Two of these layered pieces are then attached and illuminated with an internal LED lamp. Multiple 16s have been combined and supported by a modular armature system for use in Fairmont Pacific Rim, Vancouver.

Speaking about the design, Omer Arbel, Creative Director, Bocci, comments: “16 is a project that we initiated some years ago, very soon after our debut with 14. At the time we didn’t have the technical expertise and glass knowledge to bring it to fruition, but now we do, and it is very gratifying to finally see it complete.”

“16 is an exploration of the deceptively simple process of pouring and layering hot glass. There is a charming analogue rawness to this piece which enters into a nice dialogue with the sophistication of the armature system”.
