Nemaworkshop opens office in Hong Kong

Architecture and design firm Nemaworkshop has announced the opening of a second office in Hong Kong, marking the studio’s expansion into the Asian market. This strategic move comes on the heels of the firm’s growing national and international visibility, with many hospitality and restaurant projects newly opened and on the boards.

Founded by Anurag Nema, Nemaworkshop has become one of the most recognisable names in the hospitality industry. Since 2004, the New York-based studio has created bold design concepts for the hotel, restaurant, residential, and retail markets. As Nemaworkshop’s roster clients and its portfolio grew to areas outside of New York City and into global markets, Nema began his search for an office abroad. The firm’s second location, situated in the district of Wan Chai in Hong Kong, demonstrates engagement within the Asian hospitality industry based upon the firm’s work with clients in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific market.

At the helm of Nemaworkshop’s Hong Kong office is hospitality expert Kevin Lien, who has 15 years of experience working in all aspects of the hospitality industry in both Asia and North America. Prior to joining the practice, Lien worked as a senior design director at Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Shanghai. In this role, Lien gained extensive experience in hospitality design, leading and developing large-scale projects within the Asian market. Lien will serve as principal, leading business development for Nemaworkshop in the region. “I am very excited to help bring nemaworkshop’s vision to the Asian hospitality market,” comments Lien. “I look forward to using my knowledge from my years at Starwood Hotels and my experience working alongside Anurag, on W Mexico City and W Seoul, to help build on what is already an iconic design firm.”

Nemaworkshop is best known throughout the industry for bringing innovative concepts to life by using a creative and fluid process for designing. The firm has worked with notable hotel brands such as W Hotels as well as restaurants such as D’espresso, Delicatessen and multiple locations for The Smith and Melt Shop. The debut of the Hong Kong office will provide Nemaworkshop with a new global platform, allowing the studio to bring its unique process and designs to clients around the world.
