St James Hotel opens in Nottingham’s historic castle quarter

The public areas have been completely transformed into grand, contemporary spaces with chandeliers, restored pink marble floors and sumptuous furnishings. The hotel’s lounge and bar, No.6, offers a warm and inviting space with a signature cocktail list, regular events and a library wall of over 400 books. The hotel will also feature a unique art collection, focussed on work from local young artists on display in its own gallery.

Conceived as a value boutique, the 87 guestrooms have been designed around the needs of guests. The penthouse is a 650ft2 space, with Burr Walnut floors, antique furniture, a baby grand piano and four-person hot tub.

“The brief was to create a truly unique hotel which would stand apart from the local competitors as a property of character, style, service and value. I am confident that this has been achieved,” commented Harjeet Johal, interior designer of St James Hotel. “I wanted to reintroduce the wonder of travelling and make the hotel a place of both delight and sanctuary. I am very proud that most of the sourcing has been from within a 30 mile radius of the hotel. It is a real showcase of local craftsmanship and produce.”

The hotel also features several refurbished event spaces, the largest holding 200 guests. As the largest independent boutique hotel in Nottingham, the St James aims to set standards for style and service alike.
