Meliá Hotels International expands to Morocco with three new hotels

Set to be developed in the tourist destination of Saidia Med, the hotels will include a beach hotel, club hotel and luxury serviced apartments and will boast the distinctive Meliá brand attributes and standards, all in the five-star category.

“Meliá has been chosen to operate the new luxury hotels due to its leadership and international experience in leisure travel,” explained Anasshouir Alami, Chairman of SDS. “This will be key to the development and success of Saidia Med, and also its ability to diversify products to improve the segmentation and attractiveness of the destination.”

Meliá joins other international hotel brands signed up to the scheme and will add 736 new rooms to the destination portfolio. The first of the hotels scheduled to open is a Meliá Beach Hotel, located near a golf course with sea frontage. With 396 rooms, a spa, convention centre, four restaurants and three bars as well as a beach club, it is estimated that the hotel will open in 2016. A Club Hotel for families is also set to open, located overlooking a golf course and boasting 150 spacious rooms. The hotel will focus on golf for adult guests, with play areas and swimming pools for children. This is also set to open in 2016. Finally, slated to open in 2017 is the Meliá luxury holiday apartments alongside the beach hotel. Sharing the sea views, the 190 guestrooms will complete the Saidia Med accommodation options.

“Along with growing leisure travel, we are also seeing a growing demand for superior quality, and travellers seeking the exclusive and unique experience that our Meliá brand offers guests, thanks to its unique attributes and service culture. Almost 60 years of experience and the leadership of Meliá in the leisure hotel business offer the firmest guarantees for the development of this spectacular destination,” concluded Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International.

The hotels mark the company’s first in Morocco. SDS is a partnership between Moroccan group CDG and the Moroccan Tourism Development Fund.
