The hotel will occupy floors 38, 39 and 1 to 8 of the Burj Khalifa tower, which was inaugurated as the world’s tallest building on Monday 4 January.
Originally the 828m tower was to have been called Burj Dubai, but the new name was revealed at the opening ceremony. It refers to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the ruler of Abu Dhabia and president of the United Arab Emirates, who approved direct and indirect bail outs totalling $25bn last year as Dubai’s debt problems deepened.
